ABOUT THIS PROJECT
With so many emerging and specialized practice areas, occupational therapists have the power to make significant impacts within their communities, the responsibility to continue developing and expanding their reach, and the passion to cultivate revolutionary change. Traditional and hybrid student members of Grand Valley State University’s Pi Theta Epsilon chapter came together to research and develop a project addressing various emerging occupational therapy practice areas. The project’s goal was to spark curiosity and passion in current and future occupational therapy students to think outside of the box when they are exploring their future career path. The students who developed this project wanted to not only expand their own knowledge within the field of OT, but also wanted to be able to share and disseminate this knowledge with all OT professionals and beyond.
The purpose of OneTitle, Endless Opportunities was to explore areas of occupational therapy practice that OT students may not necessarily experience in traditional fieldwork placements. GVSU PTE members researched a variety of emerging practice areas, developed interview questions from the research, and organized virtual interviews with OT practitioners working in these areas. Not only did this project allow students to gain knowledge about emerging practice areas, but it also provided many opportunities for professional development and valuable networking.
The students involved with the development of OneTitle, Endless Opportunities take great pride in the fact that this project was completed in its entirety during the unprecedented time of COVID-19. The traditional and hybrid students at GVSU researched, brainstormed, collaborated, networked and persevered through many unanticipated challenges to ensure that this project fulfilled its purpose in contributing to the OT profession.
